Cupping

Cupping is an ancient medical technique that consists in placing special glass cups, bamboo jars, or plastic cups in your skin to create suction by using special techniques. After the suction, (which usually last 10 minutes) has occurred, the doctor removes the glasses and he or she realizes message across the skin where the cups were placed, this gives the person a very relaxing sensation. This technique is similar to acupuncture because it targets the acupuncture points. It also follows the path of the meridians, (the cups are placed along the five paths of the meridians that are in the back) but instead of using thin needles doctors use glass cups. The purpose of cupping is to remove the toxins that are in your body's tissues and relieve the pain by enhancing your circulation (Axe 2016).

  • What are the benefits of cupping?

Cupping can remove the toxins from your body and enhance your circulation as well as it stimulates the Qi flow. Cupping can be very beneficial when treating different health conditions, however, cupping can do wonders in patients that have the following conditions (Axe 2016):

It is important to say that cupping can make your skin temporarily purple or red under the area that it was cupped. However, it only lasts a few days and it is not painful, but it is possible that you feel your skin sensitive (Dubowsky 2015).

Also, this procedure should not be used in patients that:

  • Bleed easily

  •  Have skin ulcer or edema.

  • It is not recommended for pregnant women.

(Dubowsky 2015).
