7 emotions & 6 evils

Doctors that practice Chinese medicine, during the diagnosis, they try to investigate the internal and external causes of his or her patient’s diseases. Emotions are the internal causes of diseases, and the climate is the external cause of diseases (Schoenbart & Shefi 2007).

Internal causes: Emotions

For traditional Chinese medicine, the emotional well-being is extremely important because each emotion is related to an organ. Thus, they believe that internal diseases are caused by any emotional imbalance (excess or deficiency) (Ody 56).

External Causes: Climate

In the Chinese medicine perspective, there are 6 types of climates (6 evils) that can cause diseases. Each climate (which is associated with an organ) has a direct impact on your body and mind. If your Qi is not strong enough, it can cause a disease (Ody 48).
